Poker bluff is best navigated by going directly up the slip until an orange marker is seen (see photo). After that, take the time to scout the markers through a 100m of windfall until the track becomes good again.
As mentioned in Remote Huts, the track leaves the river when you’re roughly opposite Galway Creek. Look for old cairns close to the bush edge. This is a short section but it’s definitely worth finding and it’s a nice reprieve from the endless boulder hopping. We missed it on the way up and then were distracted by false trails, weirdly marked by pink tape. But we happily found it on the return.
