Here’s our route up the Reay valley. Things seem to change by the day so it might not work for you. But at least it’s nice to know people are finding a way.

We originally planned to go up the true right of the Reay along the shelf (red line).

It looked gnarly so we traversed the lake and then angled up to the true left of the stream, eventually crossing it and picking a way to the basin (green line).

It was okay – less sketchy than garbage gully. Relies on low stream levels.

29th March 2024 (by 1 April the lake was gone, but the route still goes).

Also, the last river before Beetham Valley Hut is very gorgey. You can either climb up towards the 1700m contour to where it eases off (red line). This gives some cool views down the gorge but if you’re keen to get to the hut quickly then save yourself the trouble and cross around the 1520m contour, which is super chill (green line)
